The Shadwell herd was established in 1997 with purchases from the famous Netherton and Blelack herds and has since grown, through retention of our best homebred females, to around 80 cows. The herd was originally formed for the purpose of using the cattle as a grazing management tool for the stud farm, but it has developed in to a wider project and is now an important part of the Shadwell Estate enterprise. Under the expert management of Herd Manager Robert Clarke, the herd has cemented itself as one of the strongest and most successful in the country.
Showing is undertaken to raise the profile of the relatively young herd and we have enjoyed enormous success at shows throughout the United Kingdom, culminating in many breed and interbreed championships.
Cattle have been sold to all corners of the Great Britain and we continue to enjoy repeat custom from many loyal pedigree and commercial customers. More recently we have sold heifers to Spain and France. Our ethos remains straightforward – to produce bulls of high quality, longevity and of exceptional meat eating quality for commercial and pedigree breeders and females which retain the strong maternal characteristics the breed is famous for, that of easy calving, good temperament, longevity and milk.
These simple criteria have helped shape the herd into the fine form it is today and, coupled with our high health status and the critical eye of our Herd Manager, you can buy from Shadwell Estate safe in the knowledge that our stock will bring many benefits to you and your herd.
